10 Amazing Classic Rock Inspired Albums From The 21st Century

3. Death Magnetic - Metallica

Though it was a big announcement when Metallica announced a new album to be released in 2008, many diehard fans were skeptical of what was to come. Over the years, the band had been chasing trends on Load and Reload, while St. Anger felt too abrasive for anyone to enjoy outside of the band's behind-the-scenes squabbles.

Once the first single was released upon the public, those nervous feelings quickly faded away. This was the type of thrash that the band was known for doing best in the 80's, with songs like "All Nightmare Long" and "My Apocalypse" bringing the pain just as much as their early cuts. The band even borrow from their Black Album sound on "The Day That Never Comes," which is a combination of every great ballad they have ever put out.

The band even expanded further on their legacy by making a new addition in the "Unforgiven" series, complete with piano and brass accompaniment. After almost two decades without a good metal release, Death Magnetic was the record that got the band back to sounding like themselves once again. It may have been a long road of experimental detours to get here, but these thrash metal pioneers were finally back in full form once again.
