This is fairly short and sweet (for Metallica) at thirty seconds, but what a tremendous half minute it is! This is a real old school shred fest and wouldn't be out of place in a slayer song. It is comprised of fast, ascending runs over the quicker tempo and the slower sections have the dirtiest dive bombs, this side of Kerry King. Again, this suits the approach of the song and is all about aggression and attitude. Death Magnetic, as an album, features some of Kirk's more violent lead playing. Perhaps this was helped by the fact that on previous record, St Anger, he was benched from playing solos, so here he just went for it and tore up the fret board.
