10 Hard Rock Bands Who Made 3 Great Albums In A Row
4. Pearl Jam
From one band in grunge subculture to another, Pearl Jam do not lack great albums. Their debut album, Ten, was released in the same year as Nevermind and the band created their own signature spell of darkness transformed into arena anthems. Pearl Jam weren’t writing fun choruses but sang about bleakness with a blunt nature and touched people through their own blend of rawness and vitality. The album ignited the band’s career with a suckerpunch of songs such as Alive, Jeremy and Even Flow, anthems that Pearl Jam would rarely top in terms of popularity, however the band went on to better Ten in glorious ways.
Next came 1993s Vs., an album created by a man haunted by the success of his band who wanted things to be as DIY as one of the biggest bands in the world could possibly be. It’s uncommercial but meaningful, massive, deep and perfect full of classic rock influence, heart and punk ethos. They turned against the system before the system could turn on them.
Once Vitology came out Kurt Cobain had recently died and everything began to change, the band wrote the album on the road and infused it with experimentation, poignancy and straight up punk rock. They’d go on to write more perfect albums and complete five great records in a row, but that’s another story.
