10 Hard Rock Bands Who Made 3 Great Albums In A Row

3. Led Zeppelin

Picking a three album run in Led Zeppelin’s career is tricky due to the polarising and largely disliked Led Zeppelin III, so despite the band’s first two albums being brilliant, their run of Led Zeppelin IV (1971), Houses of the Holy (1973) and Physical Graffiti (1975) is what we’ll go for.

Led Zeppelin IV reads like a greatest hits album, with songs like Stairway to Heaven, Black Dog and Rock and Roll showing off just how essential it is as a piece of musical history. It summarises the career of Led Zeppelin from their very best hard rock efforts to the blues in one tight package that perfects every experiment of their career up to that point. Most people would agree that Led Zeppelin IV is the finest of their career.

The followup to their classic, Houses of the Holy is an extremely polarising album, however it was never gonna be an easy ordeal to follow such a record. Houses of the Holy is full of diversity and Zeppelin swagger and is a fascinating listen even if it’s not as good as they’ve ever been. Following this was the last great Led Zeppelin album, Physical Graffiti, an album full of versatility and experimentation. Physical Graffiti is a showcase of some of rock’s best instrumentalists progressing music forward and exploring capabilities. At their best, Led Zeppelin are timeless.
