6. Throwdown - Baby Got Back

Original Artist - Sir Mix-A-Lot (1992)Released - 2001 (Too Legit For The Pit Compilation CD) Off to the OC in California in the good ol€™ US of A with Throwdown, a straight edge hardcore metal band that some critics have likened to such legends in the field from Pantera to Sepultura. The songs "Forever" and "Burn" have been staples on MTV2's Headbanger's Ball and Revolver Magazine called them part of "The Future of Metal" after hearing the album Vendetta. Formed in 1997, the timeframe makes sense as to why they chose this particular pop song to pay their respects to. As Sir Mix A Lot€™s controversial track was not only on the front pages (before the internet) for all the wrong reasons, but its success in the year of its release, second only to Whitney Houston€™s I Will Always Love You, made it a staple in music and pop culture history. Throwdown themselves have been making a serious name in the modern era of metal. With a new album now available for download to add to their already overflowing discography and fan base, it may be only a matter of time before these Californian natives make a mark on the music scene not unlike that certain hip hop icon they expertly pay homage to with this cover version.
