10 Most Un-Metal Songs By Major Metal Artists
5. Whorehouse Blues - Motorhead
Most of the uninitiated have said that Motorhead tend to play the same song over and over again. I mean, if you've heard both Ace of Spades and Overkill, you've pretty much heard Lemmy's entire discography, right? Well, instead of the usual straight ahead proto punk stuff that they're known for, these leather-clad badasses have a lot more up their sleeve. Case and point: Whorehouse Blues.
Granted, the idea of going to a whorehouse for lyrical inspiration isn't really out of the question for Lemmy, given that it's been a staple for most of his group's career. Then again, there are pretty much no electric instruments to be seen on this outing, with most of the tune being hammered out on an acoustic guitar by Phil Campbell as Lemmy does his best impression of the weary blues drifter. Hell, there's even a harmonica break towards the mid section, making the whole track feels like a relic from the days before rock and roll even existed.
Since Motorhead were already seasoned veterans of the music world at this point, this shows them kicking back to their roots with a track that's every bit as badass as any other metal artist would hope to be. For as country as this song seems, this is the stuff you would only find in the grizzliest Western stories.
