10 Musicians That Will Never Work With Each Other Again

5. Ian Gillan vs. Ritchie Blackmore - Deep Purple

When talking about the early days of hard rock and metal, Deep Purple had pretty much everything that you wanted in a supergroup. Whereas a band like Black Sabbath had an amazing player in Tony Iommi, each of these musicians was an absolute monster on their instrument, providing some of the most freeflowing jam sessions that the rock community had ever seen on a stage. The only problem being...the guitarist and the singer absolutely hated each other.

While most of these things come down to a personality issue on both sides, most of the drama between Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Gillan came down to the fact that they were not on the same creative page. Though they managed to make four records together in the '70s, the tensions were there ever since their second outing Fireball, with Blackmore almost breaking down one of the doors of the cabins they were staying in. As much as there is a feeling of professionalism with these guys, Blackmore really is the diva of the group when you look at it as an outsider.

From going off on tangents in the middle of the set to playing erratically onstage, Blackmore was the epitome of the disagreeable rock star, living on a mantle that wasn't quite big enough for Gillan to fit in. Even when Gillan resigned from the band, the only way Blackmore would stay was if Roger Glover went with Gillan. It doesn't matter how much you may claim to compromise...that's some dictator sh*t.
