You may know this song from the second disc of the Foo Fighters album, In Your Honour. And yes, it is the same song but it long pre-dates the 2005 release. Whilst he was still in Nirvana, Grohl wrote and recorded his own songs but kept them separate from the band. Instead, he released them in 1992 under the name of Late! on a cassette called Pocketwatch. The songs were different from the edgy, grungy style of Nirvana, with Friend Of A Friend, in particular, being a much softer, acoustic sound. The song documents Grohls time in Nirvana, as it is about both of his band-mates: Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic. The song shows Grohls worry about Novoselics drinking habits and how everyone was in awe of Cobains music. Of course, since Cobains death, the song holds much more meaning.
