10 Perfect Rock Songs On Terrible Albums
4. One More Light - Linkin Park
For many Linkin Park fans, looking back on One More Light stills feels a bit too soon. Since Chester Bennington's death a few months after the release of this album, most of the lyrics tend to hit a lot closer to home when you look at them through the lens of a man who thought his time was running out. Though a lot of the pop rock experiments like Battle Symphony didn't work out so well, the title track is almost painfully real now.
Written by Mike Shinoda about a friend of the band who had passed away, this song is a testament to always keep going and never letting the darkness overtake you. Suffice to say, this is absolutely soul destroying when you hear Chester sing it, especially when accompanied by the music video, which shows all of the adoring fans who had nothing but love for him.
Even if you don't have struggles with mental health, there's more poignancy in the line "who cares if one more light goes out" than there was on the entire album that it was a part of. That doesn't mean that we have to look at the bad parts of this album as Chester's legacy. Chester helped us all get over our own demons, and even though he's not here to celebrate with us, this is at least a good final goodbye from one hell of a frontman.
