10 Perfect Rock Songs On Terrible Albums
3. X-Kid - Green Day
Almost half of Green Day's ambitious trilogy was meant to go back to the drawing board and get in touch with the more nostalgic vibes that they created back in the days of Dookie. Though that's always a good idea for a record, having us sit through 2 hours of boring and the entirety of a song like Nightlife is enough to tell you that this was the wrong choice. On the final installment of this waste of time though, we did have one great song with X Kid.
Ignoring the throwaway video that was released along with it, this is the kind of song that works better just as a great album cut, with Billie Joe Armstrong coming to grips with getting older. Instead of trying to just relive your glory days all over again, this is told from the perspective of someone who's watching their friends struggle to grow up.
Especially coming from Generation X around this time, this must have been a hard pill to swallow, with most of them either finding their way into adulthood or getting lost in the shuffle and spit back out. Though this would have made a great hidden gem on a better Green Day record, this shines like a crowned jewel as Tre starts to unfold. It took us two albums of nothing to get a great song, but better late than never.
