These bands all learned to be patient whilst waiting 10+ years for another hit.

You know what they say, patience is a virtue, especially if you work in the music business.

Even with all the talent, good looks, and connections in the world, it can still take time for a artist to score a big song and, even when they do, there's no guarantee that they'll be able to immediately follow it up.

If you want proof of this, just ask these fine folk, who all had to wait over ten years between one hit single and the next.

Some of them took time out of the spotlight before returning with a bang, whilst others simply had bad luck and weren't able to break through. Whatever the reason, they must have all been so relieved when they got the news that they'd finally broken their slump.

For clarification, a "hit" in the context of this list is a top ten single in either the US or the UK. Songs where the act performed as part of a band do not count, but features and special appearances do.

With that out of the way, let's see what the spirit of perseverance got for these huge bands.

10. Pink Floyd - 12 Years

Though they've contributed some of the greatest albums ever made, psychedelic masters Pink Floyd haven't had a great deal of luck when it's come to singles.

They haven't had a song chart in America since 1994 and only one of their songs has reached the top spot in the US. That was the epic Another Brick in the Wall (Part II), aka the only part of that song anybody actually knows, which peaked at number one in 1979.

Another Brick also reached these heights in the band's homeland of the UK, their first song to enter the top ten since 1967's See Emily Play.

Serving as the band's second ever single, See Emily Play is regarded as one of the best tracks from Syd Barrett's time with the group and has been covered by numerous great artists in the many years since its release.

Given what a powerful force they are in culture, it's a bit upsetting to think that Pink Floyd have gone so long without a big charting single.

Maybe there's still time for the band to pull it off, although that would require working out which of the members are still friends.
