In 1970, these two bands both played at a gig in Boston. After hearing each other performing, Tyler and Kramer, who already knew each other, decided to merge bands- although Steve Tyler insisted on becoming the lead singer, and Kramer stayed on drums.

To date, Boston retains close links with Aerosmith, with the band having opened music venues in the city and their scheduled 40th-anniversary gig being held at Fenway Park. Steve Tyler has even provided narration for a walking tour for the benefit of tourists and resident fans alike.
