Arguably the worst song the Chilis have released to date, Aeroplane was written at a time when the band were still off their faces on everything they could get into their bloodstream, reducing creativity to a minimum. The song itself is a nonsensical hodge-podge of sex and drug references with very little point or scope, and the creepy children choir in the ending choruses is just plain weird. What Aeroplane has going for it is a band who musically are on top form, from Dave Navarro's fusion guitar playing through Chad Smith's thumping and driving rhythm, and ending with the irrepressible Flea's virtuoso funk bass playing. Aeroplane is a song that would have actually been significantly better had it just been left instrumental.
