Ever since the dust settled on LP's debut album Hybrid Theory, they band were making steps to change and evolve, with their next two albums deviating from that original sound, but it wasn't until their fourth that they really managed to become a different beast altogether. The first single from A Thousand Suns, The Catalyst immediately blew up and severely upset the vast majority of the band's fanbase. There's the scantest amount of guitar, very little in the way of real instruments, digitally processed vocals that together sounds more like a drum and bass song than something from a band known for being the poster boys of Nu-metal. If an act like Chase and Status or Pendulum released The Catalyst it would have been a number one hit, as it's an incredibly well put together club smasher. Just not a good Linkin Park song.
