Ace Frehley: 10 Awesome Solo Tracks You Need To Hear Again

By Reverend Rock /

5. €œCalling to You€ from Frehley€™s Comet, 1987

Speaking of insane, after having denigrated Tod Howarth for his contribution to the €œSecond Sighting€ album, here you'll see that I'm singing his praises. "Calling To You" is one of two Howarth penned tunes on the debut. However, before you lambaste me either mentally or in the comments section please listen to the song. On any other album this tune would have been a top ten radio hit, especially in €™87 when glammy hair metal was in its heyday. Big, ballsy and with a great sing along melody throughout this one deserved a better fate. Is it a great Ace Frehley song? I€™ll leave that up to you to decide, for me it€™s just too good a tune to ignore.

4. €œInto The Night€ from Frehley€™s Comet, 1987

This one€™s busy so try to keep up€ €œInto The Night€ is actually a Russ Ballard song, the writer of Ace€™s hit from €™78, €œNew York Groove€ as well as the guitarist/vocalist on the Argent classic, €˜72€™s €œHold Your Head Up€. Ballard left Argent in €™74 to pursue a career as a writer and worked with the likes of Roger Daltrey and Santana. One of the most mature tunes on any Ace release, €œInto the Night€ has an epic, grandiose feel to it. If and when you get sick of hearing Frehley singing about getting loaded this is a nice alternative that has some tasty fretwork. Great in headphones!
