Witten by Mike McCready, the song is a beautiful acoustic ballad that serves Eddie Vedders baritone vocals perfectly. Recorded live in October 2001 at the annual Bridge School benefit, Last Soldier has yet to appear in studio form. With an uncharacteristically catchy chorus at odds with its dark subject matter, the song is crying out to not only be recorded in the studio, but also appear in live sets more often. Despite its rarity status, Last Soldiers undeniable quality cements it on this list.
