Slipknot: 10 Hidden Song Details You Totally Missed
5. Spit It Out - Samples Jungle Classic
One of the elements that made Slipknot such a groundbreaking band was the wide range of musical influences on the nine members, taking in death metal, thrash metal, hardcore punk, hip-hop, electronica, and much more.
Something that really stood out from the group’s early contemporaries was the influence of jungle music, a dance genre that emerged in the mid-90’s, was largely a UK club scene phenomenon, and served as a precursor to modern drum ‘n’ bass.
Former member Chris Fehn would note that, unlike the rest of the band who were largely rooted in metal, rock, and rap, DJ and keyboardist Sid Wilson was the one who brought the jungle and rave elements to the Slipknot sound.
Wilson clearly had his finger on the pulse of music on both sides of the Atlantic in the late 90’s, selecting influential jungle track Papa Lover (The Dark Remix) by General Degree to provide the distinctive “wub-wub” sound used to break up sections of the ‘Knot classic, Spit It Out.
