Slipknot: 10 Hidden Song Details You Totally Missed
3. Dogfish Rising - Joey Jordison’s Many Talents Foreshadowed
Dogfish Rising was a hidden bonus track at the end of Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat., and is frankly, an absolute mess, but one suspects that the song was not to be taken particularly seriously, with lyrics including “blistered cabbage, oral fist toe dead yolk”, “pop sweet Ebolas, pop three holes”, and “yeah, it’s an egg sheep on my skin”.
The song would prove to be an interesting experiment in rotating the band members’ instruments, with Joey Jordison assuming guitar duties alongside drums, Josh Brainard taking over from Paul Gray on bass, and a number of guest vocalists.
Whilst largely recorded as a joke, it would serve to illustrate that despite being one of the best drummers of all time, Jordison was also an accomplished multi-instrument musician, a fact that would become clearer in later years as he branched out to be lead guitarist in Murderdolls, as well as recording multiple instruments in Scar The Martyr.
