Sonisphere 2014: 10 Really Obscure Metallica Songs You Need To Request

5. Dirty Window

When Metallica released the album 'St Anger' in 2003 they couldn't have expected the backlash they'd receive. Condemned by fans and critics as one of the worst records of the year, as well as Metallica's career, it sold poorly and was featured sparingly in set lists of the time. In fact, I remember personally being present at a performance from the band in Dublin when 'Frantic' was actually booed by a large part the audience, perhaps because of it's strong Nu Metal and double bass drum sounds. All that being said, 'Dirty Window' isn't a bad song and in general 'St Anger' isn't a bad album. A lot of material from this album has never been played live (with 2013 celebrating the tenth anniversary of even that album, makes) and likely never will be. In 2004 the band performed this song live in Oslo, Norway, adding a guitar solo into the song because there were complaints that 'St Anger' featured no solo's - we're not sure whether this was an experiment or not but it's still an unusual thing for a band of their caliber to do. The tuning might need a little work and the song might need to be arranged slightly differently for consumption by 2014 audiences but Metallica should still expect to hear this song requested of them.
