Florence Nightingale Shore was the god-daughter of the famous €˜lady with the lamp€™ who worked as a nurse in Sunderland, England. Florence was born in 1865 and attended boarding school in York before completing her education in Belgium. She then relocated to China where she worked as a governess for three years before returning to England and training as a nurse.

The life of a victorian nurse was not easy and Florence would have been expected to work long hours for just £10 a year plus board. In 1920, Florence boarded a train traveling to Sussex where she planned to meet friends for a short holiday at St Leonard€™s. While aboard she was attacked and severely beaten, dying from her injuries just days later. A nationwide investigation was launched with an unnamed man in a brown suite becoming the lead suspect in the case. Unfortunately, despite the police€™s best efforts to try and find Florence€™s killer and bring them to justice, both the reason behind the attack and the identity of her attacker remain a mystery.
