Instead of saving up for university fees and a wedding, you'd probably rather save up and earn that degree for yourself or plan your own wedding. You've worked your whole life and you deserve to spend your hard earned cash on anything you want, even if that means spoiling yourself to a holiday or a house abroad. You have to save up for these things but having children is expensive. It's estimated that you spend around £200,000 per child from the day that they're born until they are 18 on everyday things such as clothes and food. You don't mind parting with some of your money on your friends' children, but having one of our own seems like a big investment. Most people know quite early on whether or not they want to have children, and regardless of your gender, it's not a bad thing to want to put yourself first. You might meet someone later on in life and change your mind about having a family, that doesn't make you a bad person and you shouldn't have to panic about 'finding the one' just because your body clock is ticking and other people expect you to have children.
