8. Stag Films Were An Accepted Custom

In the United States, the availability of affordable 16mm cameras and projectors created an industry that produced and exhibited silent films that graphically depicted a wide range of sexual activities. By the 1920s, €œstag films€ had become so popular that they were screened at American Legion halls, college fraternities and politically conservative institutions. The creators of such films often took them on tour, charging $50 for an hour-long show where hard-core films were screened to a male audience. Far from being held in backrooms and church basements, the shows were booked by respectable organizations whose only stipulation was that the films weren€™t shown to women or minors.
