7. A Playboy Photographer Directed The First Nudie Cutie
Philip Larkin claimed sexual intercourse began in 1963, but according to Eric Schlosser, the poet was out by a decade. It began in December 1953, with the publication of the first issue of Hugh Hefners Playboy. It was Heffner, Schlosser claims, who gave the American public something genuinely new: an idealized midwestern vision of the girl next door, who was wholesome, friendly, interested in hobbies and willing to take off her shirt. More importantly, he had turned sex into a commodity for mass consumption. This doubtless inspired Playboy photographer Russ Meyer to make The Immoral Mr Teas, which became the first porn film to make a million dollars at the box office and began the trend for nudie cuties playful soft-core productions that had as many jokes as well-endowed starlets.
