7. Train Smarter, Not Harder

Further to our point of how utterly rubbish cardio is, one of the best things you can do for both your health and your laziness, is to keep your workouts short, sharp and oh so sweet.

High-Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT for short, is one of the most effective ways to whip you into shape, strip fat, improve cardiovascular health and still be home in time for Home and Away.

The way it works is that you do short bursts of seriously intense exercise, working close to your 100% capacity, followed by a short recovery period.

Studies have shown that 5-10 one-minute high-intensity intervals will burn more calories than an hour of steady-state cardio. Not only that, but you will continue to burn fat long after you've finished your workout and collapsed in front of the telly.

It also preserves your muscle mass better, as long cardio sessions can actually deplete your muscle mass. People with a higher percentage of muscle will burn more calories whilst just sitting still than somebody who weighs less but has less muscle.

This, along with the fact that you can do a HIIT workout anywhere and you'll be finished in 15 minutes, can only be good news for the terminally lazy.
