11 Health Hacks For Incurably Lazy People
5. Protein Protein Protein
Not just for the knuckle-headed gym-bros, protein is a key ingredient for anyone trying to maximise their results.
Protein, as well as building muscle (and as we've learnt more muscle = better resting fat burn), also stimulates the release of a hormone called Peptide YY.
PYY works a bit like leptin and regulates your appetite, meaning that the more protein you eat, the fuller you'll feel for longer. As you can become resistant to leptin over time, a condition that is particularly common in obese people, it's good to have a backup in the form of PYY.
So if you stock up on your protein during lunch and dinner, you PYY levels will the raised allowing you to resist the urge to scarf down a Krispy Kreme Assorted Dozen of an evening.
You don't have to go around chugging protein shakes, so long as you pack enough lean meat, pulses and leafy greens such as spinach or kale into your diet. This said, try not to overdo it. If you're consuming more protein than your body can put to good use, your body will struggle to break it down and you could end up with a kidney stone (which is no fun whatsoever).
