8. Going On A Dragon Boat Across The Boating Lake On a First Date
Visualise this: it's the middle of the school summer holidays. You're almost on the verge of holding hands with a guy you know. Your dad's given you ten pounds which you know you shouldn't spend all at once. And suddenly the boating lake springs to mind. Flash forward to a 15 year old couple manically trying to steer a hefty dragon-themed wooden rowing boat around a weed-infested pond while spectators in their hundreds watch from the cheap cafe on the river bank. There was never not a queue at that cafe. And the dragon boats were seriously overpriced. But if you were lucky, you might experience a first kiss in what was surely one of Bedford's more romantic spots, and follow it up with a can of coke and some crisps under one of the cafe parasols. There goes your tenner - but wasn't it worth it?
