8 Scientific Reasons Why You're Having One Of Those Days
3. You Shatter Your Phone Screen
So you finally get to where you're going, but you're in such a rush to get your jacket off/ticket out/arse in gear that your phone seem to leap clear out of your hand and clatters to the floor, shattering the screen.
Ask a room full of people to pull out their phones and the chances are that there will be at least one shattered screen amongst them, so why do manufacturers seem to be so incapable of making a screen that doesn't break?
The thing is about screens is that we want them to be thin, scratch resistant and strong, but these are three sides of a triangle and you can only have two at a time. iPhones in particular, have an extremely scratch resistant screen, but this hardness makes it brittle.
The damage also depends on how it is dropped. If it falls flat on its face, you might just get away with it as the force is spread across a greater area, but if this force is concentrated through a single corner, it's sayonara screen.
There is then, of course, the fact that you use your phone so much, thereby giving it more opportunity to break. If you think about it, how many other fragile glass items do you interact with for an average of 4.7 hours a day?
