Since Sir Alex Ferguson decided to call it a day in 2013, Manchester United have fallen from their perch as the dominant force in English football.
The Scotsman spent 27 years in the Old Trafford hot seat, winning 13 Premier Leagues, 5 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 2 Champions Leagues, 10 Community Shields, 1 UEFA Cup Winners Cup, 1 UEFA Super Cup, 1 Intercontinental Cup and 1 FIFA Club World Cup. It's no surprise anyone struggled to live up to that.
Unfortunately, Ferguson was also the main man behind the appointment of then Everton manager David Moyes as his replacement, which turned out to be a disaster and opened up a route for controversial Dutch boss Louis Van Gaal to drag the club back to success. Whether he will prove to be a success in the longer term remains to be seen, but he doesn't have a track record for staying in jobs a long time, so United will no doubt end up looking towards another dynasty in the next few years.

In hindsight, United should've snapped Pep up during his year sabbatical from the game instead of appointing David Moyes.
