There's a reason Colin Hendry was nicknamed 'Braveheart' by those who knew him best. Even the Scottish press acknowledged that the defender had a fearless willingness to put his head in where it was surely going to hurt. On more than one occasion, the man caught an opponent's boot to the side of the head, because he had went to get his forehead on to the ball. It's unfortunate that manager Dick Advocaat didn't really want Hendry when he was signed for £4 million in 1998. It wasn't the gaffer's choice to sign the player, club Chairman David Murray had taken the decision. This would have a negative impact on Hendry's career with Rangers, but he did still find time to win a Treble during his first campaign at the club. It wasn't only for Rangers that Hendry showed his mettle. Whilst playing for Scotland, he was notable for battling relentlessly against the odds. There weren't many attackers who enjoyed playing against the man, who would do everything to prevent goals. During one match at Ibrox, Hendry even suffered a nasty injury to his testicles, sliding into the post whilst straining every muscle to clear the ball!
