10 Legends You Won't Believe Are Out Of Contract Next Summer

5. Mikel Arteta

Arsenal€™s holding midfielder Mikel Arteta, who is the club captain, has less than a year to go on his deal with the club, and his advancing age could mean the Gunners don€™t renew his contract this season. The uncapped Spaniard, 32, joined Arsenal in 2011 from Everton, and has gone on to become one of the best deep-lying playmakers in the Premier League. He€™s previously played for Barcelona at youth level, French Ligue One side Paris Saint-Germain, Scottish Championship outfit Glasgow Rangers and Spanish La Liga€™s Real Sociedad. Arteta won the 2014 FA Cup and subsequent Community Shield with the Londoners, but could be persuaded by a host of clubs in January if manager Arsene Wenger continues to delay contract talks. He€™s made more than 120 appearances for Arsenal, and has been a continued regular in the side every since joining and while he's not got the pace he once had, he is still a supremely gifted footballer, and will have his suitors if he is allowed to leave on a free in the summer, probably including former club Everton.
