The Reds will point to the fact that Gerrard is an iconic figure in Liverpool history, having earned a status that is worth more than any amount of league titles won with the arch-nemesis. Gerrard himself has stated that it would have been impossible to sign for the club he grew up wishing to lose every week, stating that he only ever had his hometown club in his heart.
