Signed alongside Jamaal Lascelles in the £7 million double raid of Nottingham Forest last summer, goalkeeper Karl Darlow was loaned back to the Championship club for a season. He has returned to Newcastle for pre-season this summer ready to compete with Rob Elliot to be the Magpies' second-choice goalkeeper, with Tim Krul firmly implanted as the club's No 1 - and he looks set to make his debut against Gateshead at the International Stadium on July 10th. At 24 he still has some developing to do but the former Aston Villa youth product enjoyed a pretty good season in 2014-15, keeping 11 clean sheets in 42 Championship appearances for a Forest side who struggled to find rhythm. Just like Lascelles, Darlow is - to excuse the phrase - very much like a "new signing" for Newcastle...
