10 Summer Premier League Signings We Won't See The Best Of Until Next Season
4. Victor Lindelof - Manchester United
Victor Lindelof was expected to slot straight into the Manchester United defence upon his £31m arrival from Benfica. However, the Swede is yet to feature in any of Jose Mourinho’s Premier League squads, only appearing in the Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid.
'The Special One' has partnered Eric Bailly with Phil Jones, and had Chris Smalling in reserve on the bench. Marcos Rojo is also likely to find himself ahead of Lindelof in the pecking order upon his return from injury, having been a regular towards the end of last season.
With Jones in particular likely to pick up injuries, Lindelof may get a chance to demonstrate his potential later this season. He is new to the country and league, and Mourinho has good enough options elsewhere that he does not need to throw his signing in at the deep end.
Yet there is obviously something to the Swedish international which convinced the Red Devils boss that he will make a better long-term bet than Jones and Smalling. Otherwise, there would be no reason to buy him - United’s defensive ranks were not lacking in number.
