Remi Garde began his coaching career at Lyon in 2003 helping the club win League titles in 2004 and then in 2005 working as the assistant to former Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier. He earned the job as first team coach at OL in 2011 following the departure of former boss Claude Puel. Garde's Lyon finished fourth, third and fifth in his three seasons in charge. Although those league finishes didn't match the side's dominance of the previous years, the Frenchman had to deal with a club losing a lot of first team players and bringing through a large intake of youth players. He did win the club their first bit of silverware since 2008 by guiding them to a French Cup win in 2012.
