6. Threw His Boots In A Team-Mate€™s Face

After burning his bridges at Marseille, Cantona wound up at Montpellier for a year-long loan. As ever with Eric, things wouldn€™t go completely without incident. Having lost a 1989 match against Lille, Cantona got into a dressing room scuffle with team-mate Jean-Claude Lemoult. Shouting and handbags? That wasn€™t Cantona€™s style. Instead, he threw both of his boots into the face of Lemoult. Cantona€™s actions led to Montpellier suspending him for two matches and giving him a ten-day training ground ban, although several of the dressing room actually wanted him sacked and out of the club. What saved his bacon was senior figures like Laurent Blanc and Carlos Valderrama stepping in to persuade the powers that be to keep Cantona at the club. When Eric did return, he would go on to play a pivotal role as Montpellier won the French Cup. His impressive form would even lead to a Marseille return.
