10 Worst January Premier League Signings Of The Last Decade

2. Andy Carroll - Liverpool

When Liverpool signed both Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll on the same January day, Reds fans thought they were getting a new dynamic striking duo to lead them to eventual Premier League success.

What they actually got was one of the best strikers in world football and another who looked like he hadn't kicked a football very often.

Carroll's move to Anfield was a complete and utter disaster. As Suarez went on to become a darling of the Kop and consistently hit the back of the net, Carroll simply never got going both with form and fitness.

At a well-documented figure of around £35m, Liverpool won't have too many players in their history who have represented such dire value for money. The big striker was meant to be one of the replacements for a certain Fernando Torres. Indeed, Torres himself struggled massively at Chelsea, meaning this is one of the worst swaps for two clubs we've ever seen.

Carroll was eventually shipped out at a massive loss, and is currently back with his hometown club in Newcastle.
