10 Worst January Premier League Signings Of The Last Decade
5. Yoann Gouffran - Newcastle United
French forward Yoann Gouffran was one of a number of signings made by Newcastle United in the January transfer window of 2013.
He arrived from Bordeaux having been a regular contributor in terms of goals and assists. That form convinced Newcastle to agree to a cut-price deal to bring Gouffran to the Premier League under Alan Pardew.
Indeed, he actually made a decent start to life in a Newcastle United shirt. However, as time went by and with Alan Pardew now not in charge of the team, Gouffran suffered under the guidance of Steve McClaren.
The Magpies were relegated that season under the former England boss, with Gouffran making only a handful of appearances and falling massively out of favour. He was heavily criticised at times by the Toon Army but did redeem himself somewhat in the Championship as Rafa Benitez got some good performances out of him.
Despite that decent Championship spell and in excess of 100 appearances, Gouffran is among a number of Newcastle players from that time period who won't be too fondly remembered.
