10 Worst January Premier League Signings Of The Last Decade

4. Gabriel Paulista - Arsenal

Arsenal seem to have had a problem getting good defenders through the doors ever since the days of Tony Adams, Martin Keown and later, Sol Campbell, came to an end.

Year on year the Gunners are scrutinised for being too weak at the back and leaking too many goals. So, when they parted ways with over £10m to bring in Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista, some Arsenal fans thought they were on to a winner.

Paulista had been impressive for Villarreal over in La Liga. He had a no-nonsense style which many fans and pundits had said the club was missing.

Despite spending two seasons at the Emirates and making over 40 appearances, Paulista never came anywhere near being the one to solve the Gunners' defensive woes. He was often rash in his decision making and struggled to adapt to the pace of the Premier League.

Numerous injury niggles and plenty of suspensions meant his Arsenal career was a massive let-down. He left after two seasons in London, moving back to La Liga with Valencia.
