Not every signing can be as impressive immediately as the likes of Kris Commons, nor go on to make the kind of incredible impact as the Englishman, whose £300,000 fee now looks like one of the steals of the century. Some, who came into Celtic for considerably more than Commons, and with significantly more fanfare in some cases, failed to inspire at all, flopping badly and proving rather unfortunately that far too much money is wasted on mediocre or downright abject "talents". Unfortunately, given the difficulty of competing with the greater financial pulling power of the English leagues, SPL clubs, and particularly the Old Firm have been forced to take some gambles in the transfer market, investing heavily in the hope of making some headway in the Champions League. And gambles in football rarely favour the unprepared, which is why there have been so many players over the years who have clearly robbed the club of a livelihood, hoodwinking everyone into wrongly believing them worthy of many thousands of pounds a week. To celebrate that unlikely band of charlatans, we're looking back at the biggest wastes of money in recent Celtic history.
