11 Players Who Stole A Living From Manchester United

By Scott Saunders /

11. Liam Miller

The first man on the list is Irishman Liam Miller, who was picked up by Sir Alex Ferguson on a pre-contract agreement from Celtic back in 2004, though maybe to the surprise of some. His talent was raw, but Ferguson spoke of his huge potential at the time of the signing, earmarking Miller as a potential regular in the team in the years to come. His potential however never quite materialised into proven ability. Miller made only 22 first team appearances during the entire time he spent at Old Trafford, though he did score a goal against Crewe in the League Cup just a few weeks after his debut. Unfortunately, Miller was one of many faces drafted in during a barren era in the Premier League, which saw the club overtaken by Arsenal's 'Invincibles' and Jose Mourinho and Roman Abramovich's new look Chelsea. Despite early comparisons to the great Roy Keane because of their Irish roots and field position, Miller failed to develop into the great he could have been. As it turned out he ended up failing at Sunderland, QPR and Hibernian too, before he moved out to the cushty A-League in Australia, alongside such greats as Alessandro Del Piero and... Emile Heskey.
