The British media spent the majority of the 2013/14 season clamouring for Luke Shaw to be Leighton Baines understudy in the squad for Brazil, instead of the nations greatest ever left-back, Ashley Cole. They probably regret it now after the teams defensive efforts against Italy and Uruguay. Interestingly though, while young Shaw was getting deserve attention, no one has bee pushing a case for Kieran Gibbs of Arsenal. And that is despite the fact that Gibbs was pretty much shining equally at left-back for the Gunners and didn't look any less competent than his Southampton compatriot. So while Baines might still be the main left-back for EURO 2016, whoever is the England manager for the next World Cup, looks set to have two top qualify full-backs at his disposal. Whether it will help in Englands fortunes, remains to be seen.
