12 Most Expensive Transfers In Premier League History

9. Robinho - Real Madrid To Manchester City (£32.5 Million)

Manchester City made waves all across Europe in the summer of 2008 by breaking the British transfer record to sign Brazilian prodigy Robinho. 24 at the time, the forward was much sought after across Europe and the newly wealthy City even ousted Chelsea for the player's signature. He had some excellent moments in blue, but Sheikh Mansour's first massive purchase ended up failing to make his mark at the Etihad. His record in attack was so dire that his price tag and £160,00-a-week wages ended up costing City £1.88 million-a-goal. Robinho was sold nearly two years to the day after completing his move, but left for less than half of the price, while having to dig up a football career that was essentially flushed down the toilet. Robinho's sky high potential never materialised into top level ability, though he is enjoying something of a renaissance having been recalled into the Brazil squad.
