1. Allowing Complacency To Set-In Among Players, Staff And The Club's Hierarchy When Premier League Safety Was Not Yet Guaranteed
Complacency is an extremely dangerous thing in football - and Newcastle United have been riddled with it since Christmas. The players (particularly the likes of Tim Krul, Fabricio Coloccini, Moussa Sissoko and Daryl Janmaat) have been coasting for months on end, the head coach has an over-inflated opinion of himself (even exaggerating that with a tongue-in-cheek comment that he was "the best coach in the Premier League"), and the board thought Newcastle were already safe in January so they failed to spend and allowed departures from the squad. All of this complacency now looks like it could come to bite Newcastle in the proverbial - and the Magpies could be relegated to the Championship. Complacency erodes a club from within, and that is exactly what has happened at Newcastle United.
