7. Cheick Tiote And Steven Taylor Have Both Played Under McClaren Before
McClaren will not come into the Newcastle job completely blind - he already knows a lot about Cheick Tiote and Steven Taylor, having coached the pair before. Tiote was part of McClaren's Eredivisie-winning side at FC Twente and starred in midfield for the Englishman during the 2009-10 season before moving to Newcastle for £3.5 million. Taylor, meanwhile, briefly worked under McClaren in the England camp. The centre-back received his first call-up to the international side in August 2007 when McClaren was Three Lions boss. Although Taylor did not play during the friendly against Germany, the fact he was called up proves McClaren is at least a partial fan.
