Even though the squad was devastated by liquidation and the subsequent need for renewing contracts, leading to many top players electing to instead leave Rangers, the club still managed to stabilise to a certain degree. A number of players from other teams in divisions above them were signed, and mixed with an influx of youth they managed to win the Third Division and League One titles in both 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. On one hand, this should have been obvious, but there were no guarantees. Rangers had some very tough games against teams who may not have been technically good sides, but were fired right up by the prospect of playing such an infamous club. Not just any team could have faced the circumstances Rangers did and got themselves back to a respectable level, there was a lot riding on those back-to-back titles.
