The UFC's official rankings only include UFC fighters, but nearly every other body that ranks MMA fighters has had Eddie Alvarez ranked in its top ten amongst lightweight fighters for quite some time. That's pretty impressive when you consider who's in the lightweight division: Anthony Pettis Benson Henderson Gilbert Melendez Cowboy Cerrone Khabib Nurmagomedov Rafael dos Anjos Edson Barboza Bobby Green Jim Miller Oh, and lets not forget that when Alvarez was first getting ranked in the top ten, you still had guys like B.J. Penn and Frankie Edgar fighting at lightweight. In fact, Alvarez vs. Edgar is still a dream fight for many!
