To look at Carrolls goalscoring numbers in isolation is perhaps a tad unfair. One of the biggest plus points about his first spell at the Gallowgate was the way in which he held the ball up with his back to goal and his ability to flick possession on to other players in the side. His ability to engage centre-backs and capture their attention is remarkable and he is a test for any Premier League defender - this in turn should create opportunities for more agile, roaming forwards. With Papiss Cisse sniffing around for flick-ons to break into the box and Ayoze Perez wreaking havoc with his pace and trickery, Carroll could be the poor mans Alan Shearer to Cisse or Perezs Craig Bellamy. Even though he might not bang them in himself, with the right formation in place, Carroll could still boost the chances for others in the team.
