Di Canio was appointed as Sunderland manager back in March charged with keeping the club in the Premier League having gone eight games without a win under Martin O'Neill. After a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea in his first match in charge, back to back wins followed which included the 3-0 derby victory at Newcastle and 1-0 win at home to Everton which was enough to see Sunderland finish 17th and mission accomplished for Di Canio. Five games into the new season though they remain his only league wins and with just one point claimed, coming in the 1-1 draw at Southampton, he leaves the club with an overall record of played 13 won 3 drew 3 lost 7.
