It will take a big player to replace the gap left by Nathaniel Clyne but Cedric Soares will prove he is up to the task. Signed from Sporting Lisbon for £4.7 million, the defender is known for his attacking ability and is a text-book industrious full-back who can bomb up and down the pitch.

Soares made an impressive debut against Vitesse Arnhem and could be another hidden gem discovered by Southampton's recruitment team.

The 23-year-old will aim to exploit the relatively unfamiliar Newcastle left-hand side that will probably see Massadio Haidara at full-back and either Rolando Aarons or Gabriel Obertan playing on the wing.

The defender has Champions League experience and has already been capped by Portugal.
