Darmian's versatility will give Louis van Gaal plenty of support as he tinkers with his formations throughout the season. The Italian defender can be played on either side of a four-man defence meaning he will initially replace Valencia at right-back but given Luke Shaw's injury record he could be used on the left as cover. The 25-year-old could also act as a wing back if the Man United boss preferred to use his favoured back three formation. He has also played as a centre back on a couple of occasions and didn't look out of his depth. His tackling and overall defensive contribution is extremely strong and he will give the Red Devils a lot more defensive cover than they had last season.
